How Much Could You Lose?

Does your insurance policy provide adequate protection for your needs? Consider these questions:

Q: How was the insured value of your home determined? Was it based on your home’s market value?

Q: If your home is totally destroyed, will your insurer rebuild it regardless of cost?

Q: If personal property is stolen or damaged, will you be paid replacement cost or depreciated value?

Q: Do you know how you will be paid if you have a covered loss to your home or property? Will you be required to replace an item before receiving your full settlement?

Q: If you live in a condominium or cooperative, have you made permanent upgrades such as new carpeting, wallcoverings, or cabinetry?

Q: Can you receive a cash settlement for your home or do you have to rebuild it to get paid?

Q: If you live in an older home, does your insurance policy provide law and ordinance coverage?

Q: Are you covered for failure of your sump pump?

Q: Are you covered for flood insurance?

Q: Has your agent offered various deductibles and the estimated savings for these options?

Q: Do you or a family member have a business that you conduct from your home?

Q: Are you or a family member an officer or member of the board for a non-profit organization?

Q: Do you own a swimming pool or trampoline?

Q: Do you own a seasonal or secondary home or condominium?

Q: Do you employ a nanny or domestic worker?

Q: Do you own a dog?
